Introduction: Erectile dysfunction (ED) is often found in patients with chronic kidney disease stage 5 (CKD stage 5). Erectile dysfunction is one of the sexual dysfunctions that affect physical and psychosocial health is still considered taboo and has not received attention, especially in patients with CKD stage 5 who undergo dialysis therapy with continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD). In Indonesia only 2% of patients with CKD stage 5 underwent peritoneal dialysis with CAPD. This study aimed to determine the comparison of ED degree in CKD stage 5 patients before and after undergoing CAPD.
Method: This study design is pre and post-test design studies. Involved 22 study subjects male with CKD stage 5 with a minimum age of 18 years and a maximum of 70 years, already married and had undergone a CAPD of at least 3 months. The ED degree was assessed by the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF5) questionnaire after being diagnosed with CKD stage 5 but had not received CAPD dialysis therapy and after undergoing CAPD at least 3 months.
Result: It was found in the group before CAPD that most of the patients with severe of ED degree were 11 subjects (50%) and after CAPD were mostly with mild to moderate of ED degrees 13 subjects (59,1%).
Conclusion: Significant of ED degree difference and increase in IIEF5 score in patients after undergoing CAPD with p <0.001. On this study is there are differences of ED degree and an increase in IIEF scores in CKD stage 5 patients undergoing CAPD. Erectile dysfunction and quality of life need to get attention and treatment for patients with CKD stage 5.
